Our story began over 100 years ago, when Arnold & Alice Sagvold bought land in McLeod, ND. They raised a family on that land, and their son continued farming it when they retired. Ron & Marge added more land to it, and they raised their family the same way. When Ron retired, his son Daran added both parcels to the land he was farming, creating the Rocking S Ranch. He and I, (his wife Deb), have raised our family on the prairie sand where his family roots run so deep. These days, our son, Daniel, can be found farming the same soil, as he and his wife, Hannah, raise their children on the land their great-great grandparents farmed.

Over the years, we’ve changed from conventional farming, to a more regenerative farming model, in an attempt to grow healthier soil, and in turn, raise more nutrient-dense beef. We are learning more each year, as we seek to lessen the soil’s dependence on chemical inputs, and give it what it needs to supply it’s own.

In 2019, we began looking at ways to market the products we were growing direct to the consumer, and Sandhills Family Farm was born! It quickly became apparent that people were hungry for REAL food, grown in a healthy and ethical way.

These days, you can find me at Farmer’s Markets around the SE North Dakota, with my signature Sandhills trailer full of beef and honey. If you see the trailer, I’m open for business! Check the calendar for current locations/times.
